MODULAR voor Virunga Foundation in RDC
RENTEC installed a MODULAR 1T Palm Oil Extraction mill for the Virunga Foundation in Mutwanga, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Did you know that this contributes to protecting the oldest national park in Africa ? By creating jobs for the local communities, there is less need for the population to enter the park to cut trees or poach.
The extraction of the crude palm oil (CPO) happens in one of the most sustainable ways possible. The palm oil mill is powered by green energy produced by a hydro-electric power plant. The CPO is used locally as cooking oil or for the production of soap. Steam is generated by biomass generated by the mill itself. The EFB (empty fruit bunches) are composted and go back to the fields of the local population as compost to avoid any need for chemical fertiliser.
This complete program, with zero deforestation, exploiting old palm trees or replanting old palm trees, is helping to provide a minimum living income for the population in this war torn region. Increased safety, higher quality palm oil, better extraction rates,… provide a win-win for all stakeholders.
